Wide spreading, semi evergreen tree with sometimes prickly branches and prickly stalked leaves divided into 3 broadly ovate leaflets, the longest to 9cm long. In spring, it bears dense, terminal racemes, up to 15cm long; orange scarlet flowers, 5cm long, with broad, strongly arching standard petals.
